Beverley’s story
From keeping up to thriving
at work with Caption.Ed
Beverley Jones
Executive Manager | UK Civil Service

Beverley Jones is an Executive Manager in the Civil Service. As a civil servant, she is involved in a lot of meetings and discussions, but for a long time, keeping up with complex conversations was a constant challenge.
“As somebody who’s both dyslexic and autistic, keeping up with complex conversations and instructions in real time has always been a challenge,” Beverley says. She also lives with hearing loss and fibromyalgia, which only added to the difficulty.
Before using assistive technology, she felt like these challenges were a barrier to her career progression. She was constantly focused on writing everything down and struggling to make connections in real time, which meant she couldn’t give her full attention to what was being said.
The relief of having an accurate record
Beverley first accessed Caption.Ed through workplace adjustments, and it’s been by her side in meetings ever since. While our software runs quietly and smoothly in the background, it captures everything that’s said. This freed her up to listen actively and contribute to discussions without the worry of missing important information.
“I don’t have to worry about keeping up and writing at the same time,” she explains. Knowing she’ll have an accurate record afterwards gives her peace of mind and allows her to participate actively in the conversation.
After her meetings, Beverley can also quickly create accurate notes and AI-generated summaries on Caption.Ed, which is especially helpful in her new role where she needs to understand complex information and respond with confidence.
“I can stay fully engaged in the discussions, knowing I have an accurate record that I can refer back to.“
Shifting the focus to the conversation with Caption.Ed
For Beverley, Caption.Ed is more than just a tool; it’s a way to remove barriers and build confidence. “It’s been a real game changer for my career,” she shares with us. It’s allowed her to focus on contributing to conversations rather than just trying to keep up.
Beverley highly recommends Caption.Ed to anyone considering it. It has given her the freedom to be fully present and perform at her best, proving that the right technology can make all the difference.
Caption.Ed in the Civil Service
Beverley’s story is just one of many successes we’ve seen since introducing Caption.Ed to the UK Civil Service. Our captioning and note-taking tool was initially recommended by the Occupational Health team as a solution for civil servants with specific needs.
Thanks to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from these initial users, Caption.Ed’s footprint at this government department grew fast. In fact, licences jumped from 5 to 150 in a short time – and it’s still growing.
As Sarah, our Customer Success Manager, says: “The growth we’ve seen here reflects how effective Caption.Ed can be when users feel empowered to advocate for it themselves. We’re proud to support that kind of momentum.”
If you’re a civil servant, and think Caption.Ed could help you, feel free to reach out to your organisation’s Assistive Technology Team or Occupational Health provider to discuss getting access.
We’re proud to partner with government departments across the UK, supporting civil servants like Beverley in their journey to contribute fully and work with confidence.
“Caption.Ed has removed barriers, it’s given me confidence, and it’s allowed me to focus on contributing to discussions and not just trying to keep up.”
