Bringing clarity and confidence back with Caption.Ed

Julie Foster is a Clinical Team Leader at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, where she leads the AACC Hampshire Review Team. As an NHS manager, her days are filled with meetings, calls, and constant communication. But for Julie, who has severe hereditary hearing loss, every day was an “uphill struggle,” as she puts it.

Julie spent her days constantly using technology for work, from Teams calls to face-to-face meetings. However, her hearing loss made it difficult to catch what was being said. This struggle wasn’t just about missing words; it had a deeper emotional toll.

“Prior to having this technology, I always felt stupid as I could not hear; and would get funny looks and responses if I answered a question wrongly due to not having heard the question properly,” Julie explains.

For Julie, the problem went beyond a simple lack of clarity. It was about a loss of confidence. Her worry of missing something important or misunderstanding a question was a constant weight, affecting her ability to fully engage and contribute at work.

To support her in her role, Julie applied for Access to Work, a government scheme that helps people with disabilities. Access to Work assessors recommended Caption.Ed to help her with her daily tasks.

Caption.Ed provided a much-needed lifeline. The live captions gave her a way to follow conversations in real-time and to have a backup she could review later. The feature she finds most useful is the meeting summary, which provides a concise overview of what was discussed, saving her time and ensuring she has all the key information.

For Julie, the biggest benefit of having Caption.Ed is the newfound freedom and empowerment it has given her. She describes the impact as “beyond all expectations.” With Caption.Ed, she no longer worries about what she might miss. She knows she can always go back and review the notes or the meeting summary, which has completely changed her workday.

Caption.Ed gave Julie the ability to feel more confident in her work, knowing she wouldn’t miss out on anything being said. She explained that without Caption.Ed, she’d lose her newfound confidence and her ability to interact and hear what others are saying.

Caption.Ed has helped me focus on contributing to discussions and not just trying to keep up.
